Step 1.
Making an Informed Decision
It is important that you read and understand this information. If you have further questions or concerns please contact our staff. Distance Education can be very rewarding and enriching, but also involves a lot of time and hard work. You will be taking on a large teacher/tutor role in your children’s education. While we offer support and have hundreds of families with us who experience exciting success, we want you to be able to make an informed decision regarding your move to Groves Christian College School of Distance Education.
If you have the right attitude and are willing to put in the time and effort required, we have confidence in your ability to work in partnership with Groves to provide quality-learning outcomes for your students.
Step 2.

To register you need to fill out the Application for Enrolment including:

Step 4.
Programs and Curriculum Materials are Received
You will receive for each of your students a clear program outlining a full course of study.
You will also receive:
A letter of confirmation of enrolment with Groves Christian College School of Distance Education.
Attendance Chart and Calendar
Test Envelopes
Step 5.
Program Placement
Once we receive your diagnostic materials we will complete your program placement. This is done in consultation with you, as we have curriculum options available to suit different learning needs and family situations.
Secondary students are assessed on previous years of study and the Diagnostic Tests to place them on a Curriculum Program appropriate for their academic ability. Recognition of previous completed years of study in other schools is given, however students may be required to complete a Bridging Course of work to ensure they have underlying understanding and a solid foundation that will enable them to experience success at their appropriate Grade level and fulfill the Graduation requirements of the school.
At this stage the cost of materials required for the program you choose will be discussed and finalised.
Step 6.
Working Together as a Family
On day one things may seem overwhelming, especially if you have more than one student beginning. Groves will supply you with guides and procedures that will support you during this transition time. Our Administration Staff and Registered Teachers are just a phone call or email away. So you are not alone in facing this task.
It is good to take advantage of the Distance Education time tabling and the flexibility and effective use of time. Our students save time by not having to travel to and from school, then from location to location around large schools, changing classes and down time within classes due to behavioural standards, busy teachers and often oversized classes.
Really make use of your time! When you begin working with your students set up a clear timetable for them to ensure that things do not become unfocused.
It is also very important to make sure your children have clear expectations of what is expected of them and that they have the opportunity to experience success.

The Role of the Parent
The parent’s role is to implement the program and support students as they work through the curriculum. Within the program of work there are mastery style tests or items of work that demonstrate student learning. The curriculum we employ enables parents to carry out marking of mastery tests items or work samples upon completion. This is vital, as students require immediate monitoring, reflection and often revision to ensure meaningful learning. This also validates the parent in their role, rather than sending a maths test away to be marked only to find out weeks later the student has been on the wrong track. Project materials and portfolios require sending away for marking by teaching staff at the College.
Remember – with Groves Christian College: YOU ARE NOT ALONE… helping parent's to carry out their role is only a phone call away. Don’t be shy in calling us. That’s why we are here!
Tests and work samples are periodically sent in to our staff for tracking and monitoring. These results are then in put within our database and students receive regular term reports and full transcripts as required.
Providing parents and students follow the school’s program and procedures, they have peace of mind that they are meeting the educational needs of their student.
Parent Involvement in their child(ren)’s education during lesson time each day, the home tutor should be actively involved and/or supervising the learning program with each person (for somewhere between 10% and 20% of the time).
The Role of Groves DE Teacher
Teachers and clerical staff of Groves regard teaching as a ministry to God as does a missionary called to a foreign Christian service, or as much as a pastor who ministers to a congregation of believers. Teachers at Groves serve God (and Distance families) in exactly the same way.
Students will quickly recognise that their Groves DE teacher cares about them and their education. Whatever s/he does it is for the student’s
benefit. This is a co-operative effort. We are
in this together to achieve the best possible outcome for your child.
As another resource available to parents and students, Groves teachers are something of experts in the subject(s) being studied because of their interest, training, and experience in that subject/ discipline. Students should not hesitate to take advantage of the wealth of skill that their teacher possesses; and use it to further their education and career or life opportunities after their school days have finished.
